Beginning counseling is an opportunity to feel heard, ask questions, and explore what you need. During your initial assessment, we’ll talk about what brings you to counseling, relevant parts of your history, how your concerns affect daily life, and the strengths and supports you bring.
Together, we’ll begin identifying your needs, priorities, and goals. I’ll offer recommendations, and we’ll discuss whether Graceborne’s services are a good fit and what next steps may be helpful. Assessment and treatment planning continue as we develop a fuller understanding of your experiences and what matters most to you.

Individual counseling offers space to make sense of what you are experiencing, explore patterns that leave you feeling stuck, and identify changes that matter to you. I bring compassion, thoughtful reflection, and practical tools to our work, while you bring your lived experience, strengths, and values. Together, we shape counseling around your needs and goals, with room for both understanding and meaningful action.

Relationships can become strained when the same conflicts repeat or it feels difficult to hear one another. I work with partners to understand the patterns affecting their relationship, communicate needs, explore boundaries, and consider how they want to move forward. We begin by considering whether joint counseling is appropriate and safe for both partners, with respect for each person’s voice, choices, and goals.

.Adolescence can bring intense emotions, changing relationships, and pressure to figure out who you are. I offer a supportive space for teens to feel heard, explore what matters to them, and develop ways of coping and communicating that fit their needs. Caregiver involvement is approached thoughtfully, with attention to the teen’s privacy, growing independence, and support system.
Services are generally for ages 14 and older. Younger clients may be considered case by case when clinically appropriate.

Family counseling offers space to understand different perspectives and work through concerns involving communication, family roles, conflict, or life transitions. When meeting together is appropriate and safe, I help family members explore recurring patterns, express their needs, and develop more supportive ways of relating. Our work respects each person’s dignity, developmental needs, and willingness to participate.
-
When appropriate, I integrate Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) into a broader, individualized counseling approach. My work is often thematically based, meaning we explore recurring patterns, beliefs, emotions, and experiences that connect different parts of your life. EMDR may be woven together with talk therapy and other trauma-informed strategies, with preparation and pacing guided by your needs, readiness, preferences, and goals.
A Partnership in Your Healing
I’m Lisa Shaw, the therapist behind Graceborne Counseling. I offer compassionate, trauma-informed care that respects each person’s dignity, values, and strengths.
Graceborne views counseling as a collaborative partnership. Clients bring their lived experience, values, strengths, and personal wisdom, while the therapist offers clinical knowledge, thoughtful reflection, and therapeutic tools. The therapist serves as a guide and support, not as an authority over the client’s life, choices, or path forward.
Graceborne welcomes people of all backgrounds, beliefs, and identities.
